Some of the most historic buildings in Great Britain have been roofed in natural slate, a product that is timeless, made from prehistoric clay compressed over millions of years (quite old); slates come in all different textures and colours from around the world. Welsh (Ffestiniog/Penrhyn) and CWT-y-Bugail slates being the most common in the UK; and now from other quarries such as Spain, Canada, China etc.
Natural slate is extremely durable, unaffected by temperatures and is highly resistant to acids and other chemicals, it retains it colour and is impermeable to water a hugely successful product used over hundreds of years.
Today we are spoilt for choice as there are many man-made cement fibre slates or natural slate resin composite slates all with own unique attributes and guarantees.
Roofing Dynamics can provide samples on request of most slates mentioned above.
